There is something undeniably special about the idea of getting married on the Amalfi Coast. Perhaps it’s the thought of exchanging vows overlooking the Mediterranean, arriving at your celebration by boat, or gathering your favourite people around a beautifully set table as the sun disappears behind the coastline. For many couples, the dream begins with a photograph. But planning a wedding on the Amalfi Coast involves much more than finding a beautiful venue. Having been born and raised here, and having spent over 16 years planning destination weddings for international couples, I’ve learned that the most memorable celebrations are those where beauty and thoughtful planning come together naturally. Here are a few things I believe every couple should understand before beginning their journey.
The Amalfi Coast Is Beautifully Different
One of the first things I explain to my couples is that the Amalfi Coast doesn’t work quite like other wedding destinations. Its dramatic cliffs, colourful villages and extraordinary views are precisely what make it so special. Yet that same geography creates challenges that aren’t always obvious when looking at photographs. Roads are narrow, parking is limited, and a short distance on a map doesn’t necessarily mean an easy journey. A beautiful villa might involve several flights of stairs. A waterfront venue may require access by boat. And moving a hundred guests between two locations can be considerably more complicated than expected. This doesn’t mean compromising on your dream. It simply means understanding the destination well enough to make the right decisions from the beginning.

Choosing the Right Venue Is About More Than the View
When planning a wedding on the Amalfi Coast, it’s easy to fall in love with a particular terrace, garden or historic villa. But a venue needs to offer more than an extraordinary setting. I always encourage my couples to think about how they want their celebration to feel. Would you prefer an intimate dinner overlooking the sea or a lively celebration with music and dancing? Are you imagining a relaxed wedding weekend or several events across different locations? The number of guests, accessibility, accommodation options and the practical possibilities of each venue all influence the experience. Sometimes the most spectacular location isn’t necessarily the one that will work best for your wedding.
Finding the right balance between beauty, atmosphere and practicality is where local experience becomes invaluable.

The Guest Experience Begins Before the Wedding Day
For couples travelling from the United States or elsewhere overseas, an Amalfi Coast wedding is rarely just a one-day celebration. Your guests are travelling a considerable distance to share this moment with you. And I believe their experience deserves just as much consideration as the wedding itself. From airport arrivals and hotel recommendations to transportation between events, every detail contributes to how comfortable and welcome your guests feel. Whenever possible, I love incorporating the sea into the experience. A private boat transfer, for example, can become far more than transportation. It can be one of those unexpected moments that guests remember long after returning home.
The secret is making everything feel natural. When logistics are thoughtfully organised, guests shouldn’t need to think about them. They should simply enjoy being in Italy.
Plan for the Unexpected, Without Losing the Magic
One of the most important aspects of planning a destination wedding in Italy is understanding that not everything can be controlled. Weather, sea conditions, transportation restrictions and local regulations can all influence how an event unfolds. This is why I believe contingency planning should never be treated as an afterthought. A beautiful outdoor ceremony needs a realistic alternative. Boat transfers require flexibility. Every supplier must understand the specific requirements of the location.
These are conversations I prefer to have early in the planning process. Not because I expect something to go wrong, but because good preparation allows everyone to remain relaxed when circumstances change. And that peace of mind is an important part of luxury.

A Wedding Weekend That Feels Like You
One of my favourite things about destination weddings is the opportunity to create experiences beyond the wedding day. A relaxed welcome dinner beneath the lemon trees, an intimate pizza party, a private boat excursion or a farewell lunch by the sea can give guests more time to connect and enjoy the destination. But I don’t believe every wedding needs an elaborate programme. Each celebration should have its own personality and purpose, while feeling naturally connected to the others. The most meaningful experiences are often the simplest ones, thoughtfully considered.
The Value of Truly Knowing the Destination
Planning a wedding from thousands of miles away requires trust and you need someone who understands not only your vision, but also the destination, its people and its practical realities. For me, being a local wedding planner means much more than knowing beautiful venues. It means understanding how the Amalfi Coast works, anticipating challenges, recommending the right professionals and offering honest advice when a particular choice may not be the best one. I intentionally plan a limited number of weddings each season because I want to remain personally involved throughout the journey. My role is to help you make informed decisions, protect your investment and create a celebration that feels genuinely yours. Because the true beauty of an Amalfi Coast wedding isn’t simply what you see.
It’s how you experience it.
If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding on the Amalfi Coast, I’d love to help you discover what this extraordinary part of Italy can offer and create a celebration that feels entirely your own.
